How do I let riders download my route for their Garmin?
Updated
Route downloads are off by default. To turn them on, open the event on the web dashboard at app.windline.tech, tap the settings (gear) button and tick Let riders download the route under Riders, then Save. Riders then get a Route option: every day’s route as a Garmin course or GPX, with wind cues on each day. This is on the web dashboard only, not in the iPhone app.
Off unless you turn it on
When you set up an event, riders can’t download its route files. They see the map and the live forecast, but not the GPX. That’s the default for every event, because not every organiser wants their routes shared.
If you’d like your riders to have the route on their Garmin, Wahoo or phone app, turn it on.
Turn it on (web dashboard only)
- Go to app.windline.tech in a browser and sign in.
- Open the event.
- Tap the settings (gear) button at the top.
- Under Riders, tick Let riders download the route.
- Tap Save.
This setting is only on the web dashboard. The iPhone app doesn’t have it yet. Events you set up in the app can be switched on from the web dashboard too, with the same account.
To turn it off again, untick it and save. The Route option leaves your event page within a few minutes.
What your riders get
Once it’s on:
- On your event page, a Route option gives riders every day’s route in one zip, as a Garmin course (.fit) or GPX, one file per day, named and numbered in order.
- On each day, Route for Garmin and other apps gives that day’s route with wind cues from its latest forecast, for example “Headwind 15 km/h” (9 mph). On a Garmin they show in Up Ahead.
The files are your routes as you uploaded them, kept detailed enough to navigate by. See what riders see.
Good to know
- Private rides (Just for me) never offer route downloads. Their start and finish stay hidden.
- Turning downloads off stops new downloads. It can’t take back files riders have already saved.
- The route still shows on the map either way.
