How do I create a tour from GPX files with livedot in ChatGPT?

Updated

In ChatGPT or Claude with livedot, sign in with your Windline account, attach a GPX file for each day and say when day 1 starts. livedot puts the days in order, names the towns, dates them one after another and shows you the plan. Say yes and it makes a draft tour; publish it when you’re ready.

Before you start

  • livedot in ChatGPT or Claude. Search for livedot, or add it at https://livedot.me/mcp. See using livedot in ChatGPT and Claude.
  • Your Windline account, connected the first time you ask. See connecting your Windline account.
  • A GPX file for each day, or a Ride with GPS link. A Ride with GPS collection gives one day per route. Strava links don’t work here.

Make the tour

  1. Attach every day’s GPX file in one message.
  2. Say when day 1 starts, for example “Make a tour from these, starting 6 March 2027 at 6:00.”
  3. livedot reads the files and shows you the plan: the days in order, where each goes, the distance, the climbing and the dates. Nothing is made yet.
  4. Check it, change anything you like in the chat (“Make 9 March a rest day”, “Call it the Garden Route Classic”), then say yes.
  5. livedot makes the tour as a draft in your Windline account and shows its card, with Open in Windline.

You don’t need to say it’s a tour: several files make one by themselves. One file makes a ride.

How livedot works out the plan

livedot does what you’d do by hand on the dashboard.

What How
The order By the numbers in the file names, such as 1, 01, “day-2” or “Stage 3”. If the files have no numbers, by the map: each day starts where the one before ended. Otherwise, in the order you attached them.
If they disagree When the numbers and the map don’t match, it says so in one line and keeps the numbers. Tell it which you meant.
Where each day goes From the route’s own name, such as “Knysna to Plett”, else the towns at each end, from OpenStreetMap. A loop starts and ends in the same town.
The dates One day after another from day 1, at the same start time. Name any rest days and it skips them. Ask for different start times per day if you need them.
The name Your name for it, else the name the files share (“Garden Route Classic – Day 1” gives “Garden Route Classic”), else “Mossel Bay → Storms River, 4 days”.
Distance and climbing From the files, worked out as the dashboard does.

A tour can have up to 30 days, and each GPX file can be up to 5 MB.

Who it’s for

A tour is shared unless you say otherwise: for a group, published when you’re ready. For a trip just for you, say so, and it’s private, in My Rides. If you run a club or organiser page, livedot asks first whether it’s for you alone or for your club. See private ride or club ride.

Tour notes in the same message

Paste or attach your notes for riders with the files, such as what to pack and where to meet, and they go on the tour with it, up to 10,000 characters. The plan says “With your tour notes”. See adding tour notes with livedot.

Publish it

The tour stays a draft until you publish it. Check it on the dashboard first if you like: the pace, the stops and every day’s forecast.

When you’re ready, ask livedot to publish it and give it an address, such as garden-route-2027: 2 to 48 lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens. It asks you to confirm, then the tour is public at tour.windline.tech/your-address. See publishing and choosing an address.

Good to know

  • It can’t change a finished tour. Past tours stay as they were.
  • The weather first? Ask for the weather on the same files before you make anything: see planning your route’s weather.
  • Change it later from the chat (“Move day 2 to 7:00”) or on the dashboard. livedot changes names, descriptions, start times and notes.
