How do I use Windline in ChatGPT and Claude?

Updated

Add livedot to ChatGPT or Claude as a custom connector, with the address https://livedot.me/mcp. Then ask in plain words: where a rider is in a race, how a race is going, what the weather will be on a tour, or for a tour’s GPX files. It’s free, needs no sign-in and only reads public information.

What it is

livedot, the family Windline belongs to, has a connector for AI assistants. Once it’s added, ChatGPT or Claude can read Windline’s and RunFast’s public live pages and forecasts, and answer with a map in the chat.

  • Free, with no account and no sign-in.
  • Read only. It can’t change anything, post anything or see anything private.
  • The same numbers as Windline. The weather comes from the same forecast engine as the app and every event page.

The address is https://livedot.me/mcp. You add it once.

Add it to Claude

Custom connectors work on every Claude plan, on claude.ai and in Claude Desktop. The Free plan includes one.

  1. Go to Customize > Connectors.
  2. Tap + Add, then Add custom connector.
  3. Name it livedot and paste https://livedot.me/mcp as the server URL. Tap Continue.
  4. If Claude asks about signing in, choose No sign in. Tap Continue, then Add.

To use it in a chat, tap + at the bottom left, then Connectors, and check livedot is switched on.

On a Team or Enterprise plan, an owner adds it for everyone instead, from Organization settings > Connectors.

Add it to ChatGPT

ChatGPT lets you add your own connector on some plans. OpenAI’s help lists Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces on the web, and Pro accounts in developer mode with read-only tools, which is all livedot needs.

  1. Open Plugins in ChatGPT (chatgpt.com/plugins).
  2. Tap +, then Add custom MCP server.
  3. Name it livedot. Under Connection, paste https://livedot.me/mcp.
  4. For authentication, choose none: livedot needs no sign-in.
  5. Read the warning, tap I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin.
  6. Install the plugin, open a new chat, type @ and choose livedot.

ChatGPT’s menus change often and differ between plans. If you can’t find Add custom MCP server, OpenAI’s guide Connecting custom MCP servers in ChatGPT has the current steps for your plan.

What to ask

Ask the way you’d ask a friend. A few to try:

Ask What you get
“Where’s Thandi in the Coast Classic demo?” Where she is, her speed, her goal, the wind where she is and on the road ahead, her finish time and a Follow live link.
“How’s the Coast Classic demo going?” How long it’s been under way, how many riders are on the map, who’s out front.
“What’s the ProLend 2027 Durban Tour route?” Every day, from and to, with the distance, climbing, start time and the weather.
“Give me the GPX files for that tour.” A GPX link for each day, if the organiser lets riders download the route.
“What should I pack for the Durban tour?” The organiser’s own tour notes, in their words.
“Weather for the Gravel Burn?” The weather along the course at the hours riders get there, with its rating.

The demo races run every day, so you can try them any time.

To find a real rider by name, they need to be on a public race with Findable by anyone switched on. If they sent you their livedot link (livedot.me/their-name) or their follow link, paste it into the chat instead.

Units

Answers come in your units. ChatGPT tells livedot where you are, so miles and °F in the US, km and °C in most places. Claude doesn’t, so answers lead with the event’s own units and give the others in brackets, such as “km 79 (mile 49)”. You can always ask for miles or kilometres.

Privacy

The connector reads only what anyone can see on Windline’s and RunFast’s public live pages:

  • a rider shows up only on a public race, and only if they chose to be findable;
  • no position is shared while they’re stopped or paused, or near the start or finish;
  • names show as first name and initial, such as “Thandi M.”;
  • nothing is kept about who asked.

Private rides, drafts and anything shared only by a private link never reach it.

Every answer ends with a thank-you to the sponsor who keeps livedot, Windline and RunFast free.
