How do I get a tour’s route and GPX files in ChatGPT?

Updated

With the livedot connector in ChatGPT or Claude, ask “What’s the Durban tour route? Give me the GPX files.” You get every day, from and to, with the distance, climbing, start time and weather, and a GPX link for each day if the organiser lets riders download the route. If not, it says so.

Ask for it

Add the livedot connector first. See using Windline in ChatGPT and Claude.

Then name the tour, the way you’d find it:

  • By its name: “What’s the ProLend 2027 Durban Tour route?”
  • By its address: “Give me the GPX files for tour.windline.tech/your-tour.”
  • By the organiser or club: name them, and the assistant looks through the tours on their page.

If several tours match, the assistant asks which one you mean.

What you get

Every day of the tour, in order:

  • where it goes, such as “Day 1: Johannesburg to Villiers”;
  • the distance and the climbing;
  • the start time, in the tour’s own time zone;
  • a map of every day, and the weather for each one: the live forecast within 10 days, and further out 10 years of weather on that date, labelled as history. See checking the weather with AI.

Distances and climbing come in your units, or in the tour’s with the others in brackets, such as “164 km (102 mi)”.

The GPX files

The files are the organiser’s to share, so the answer follows their choice.

  • Route downloads on: one GPX link for each day, the same file the tour page gives. In the chat’s map, each day links to its file. For Garmin courses (.fit), the answer points you to the Route button on the tour page.
  • Route downloads off: the answer says “The organiser hasn’t made the route files available.” It never makes up a link. You still get every day, the map and the weather.

Downloads are off unless the organiser turns them on. If you’re the organiser, see letting riders download the route. Turn it on, and both the tour page and the assistant offer the files within a few minutes; turn it off, and the links stop working.

Which tours

Any published Windline tour, from any organiser. Drafts, private rides and tours shared only by a private link aren’t public, so the assistant can’t see them, or their files.

Once you’ve got a file, see downloading the route for putting it on a Garmin, a Wahoo or a phone app.
