How are days numbered and ordered when I add files?
Updated
Files go onto the next free dates in the order you add them, and a day’s number comes from its date: the first date is Day 1. On a tour, Windline then sorts the days into route order. File names don’t set the order.
Dates first
Each file takes the next free date, starting from the event’s start date or after the last day that already has a route. The number follows the date: if the event starts on 10 October, the route on 12 October is Day 3 (or Stage 3 on a race).
So if you leave a date empty for a rest day, the numbers after it skip one. That matches how most tours count their days.
Route order on tours
On a multi-day tour, Windline checks whether the days would join up better in a different order, with each day starting where the last finished. If that clearly closes the gaps, it re-sorts the routes onto the dates and tells you: “…and the tour put in route order”. The dates stay where they are; the routes move onto them.
Races and events keep the order you added the files in, because stages can be in different places.
File names
Windline doesn’t read numbers from file names to decide the order. It does read town names from them, for example “Day 3 - Big Sur to Cambria”. See towns and climbing.
Fixing the order
Use Reorder, or move one day with its date picker. See reordering days.
