How do I add GPX files to an event?

Updated

Open the event in the dashboard and drop one or more .gpx files onto it, or choose them from your computer or phone. Each file becomes a day or stage on the next free date, and Windline fills in the towns and the climbing.

Add several at once

  1. Open the event in the dashboard at app.windline.tech.
  2. Drag your GPX files onto the page, or choose them. You can select all the days of a tour in one go.
  3. Windline reads them one by one (“Reading your GPX files…”) and adds each as a day or stage.

On a tour, Windline then puts the days in route order, so each one starts where the last one finished, as long as that’s clearly better than the order you added them in. See how days are numbered.

Add or replace one route

Open a day and use Upload the GPX route, or Replace GPX to swap its route. On a regular ride, dropping a new file replaces the route.

What Windline accepts

  • GPX files only (.gpx). TCX and FIT files, and links to Strava or Komoot, can’t be added directly. Export a GPX instead: see getting a GPX file.
  • Tracks and routes both work. If a file has several tracks or segments, they’re joined into one route.
  • Long, detailed files are fine. Windline keeps up to 3,000 evenly spaced points per route, which is plenty for the forecast, and measures the distance from the full file first.

Duplicates are skipped

If a file matches a route already in the event, it’s skipped and Windline tells you. See why a file was skipped.

If something goes wrong, see GPX file errors.
