Can I add my routes from Ride with GPS without downloading GPX files?

Updated

Yes. Copy the route’s link in Ride with GPS and paste it into the line under your days on the web dashboard. For a tour, put every day in a Ride with GPS collection and paste the collection’s link once: each route becomes a day, in route order. Links to a GPX file work too. Web dashboard only, not in the iPhone app.

Easiest: connect your account

If you plan routes in Ride with GPS or Strava, connecting your account is quicker still: one tap, then pick your routes or a whole collection from a list. See bringing routes in from Ride with GPS or Strava.

Most organisers plan their route in a mapping tool first. With Ride with GPS, you don’t need to export anything:

  1. In Ride with GPS, open your route and copy its link from your browser. It looks like ridewithgps.com/routes/12345678.
  2. On the web dashboard, open your event.
  3. Paste the link into the line under your days, Or paste a Ride with GPS link.

That’s it. Windline adds it the moment you paste, exactly as if you’d dropped the GPX file: the route on the map, distance, climbing, and the start and finish towns.

For a multi-day tour, put every day’s route in a Ride with GPS collection and paste the collection’s link once:

  1. In Ride with GPS, create a collection (for example “Pont Drift Tour 2027”) and add each day’s route to it.
  2. Make sure the collection, and the routes in it, can be seen by anyone with the link (or are public).
  3. Open the collection and copy its link. It looks like ridewithgps.com/collections/12345.
  4. Paste it into your event on the Windline dashboard.

Every route in the collection becomes a day. For a tour, Windline puts them in route order, each day starting where the last one finished, and gives them the next free dates. You can reorder or move days afterwards.

A Ride with GPS event link works the same way. So does pasting several route links at once, one per line.

Private routes

Windline can only read a route or collection that’s public or set to anyone with the link. If one is private, Windline says so next to it. Change its privacy in Ride with GPS and paste the link again, or download the GPX and drop the file instead.

  • A link straight to a GPX file, for example the GPX on your event’s website, or a Dropbox link.
  • Recorded rides on Ride with GPS (ridewithgps.com/trips/…), if you’d rather use the route you actually rode.

Strava and Komoot

  • Strava only lets a route be read by the account that made it, so a Strava link can’t be pasted yet. Open the route on Strava, choose Export GPX, and drop the file. See getting a GPX file.
  • Komoot doesn’t let other apps read its routes. In Komoot, download the tour as GPX and drop the file.

Where to find it

Pasting links is on the web dashboard only, at app.windline.tech. The iPhone app doesn’t have it yet. Events you set up in the app can be opened on the web dashboard with the same account.

Duplicates are skipped as usual: a route that’s already in the event isn’t added twice.
