Android app
Everything the Windline Android app does: installing it from windline.tech, following rides, setting up events, Fly the route, live tracking, clubs, alerts and the widget.
Getting started
- Is there a Windline app for Android, and how do I install it?Yes. Windline for Android is free and downloads from windline.tech/android, because it isn’t on Google Play yet. Tap Download for Android, allow the install when your phone asks, and open it. You can follow events without an account. Every day is rated for the wind, with the 6 pm alert, a home-screen widget, Fly the route, clubs and live tracking.
- How do I get started with the Android app?Install Windline from windline.tech/android and open it. Choose your units, then join the demo tour to see how a day reads, or skip it. You don’t need an account to follow an event: tap its link and it opens in the app. A free account lets you set up events, join clubs and live track.
- How do I sign in to the Android app?You don’t need an account to follow events. To sign in, open Settings and tap Sign in or create an account, then use Continue with Google, Sign in with Apple, or your email and password. It’s the same free account as on windline.tech and the iPhone app, so your events, units and alerts follow you.
- What’s on the Android app’s Events screen? The Events screen is the whole app: Live now while you’re tracking, today’s ride, then My Rides (your own rides), Riding (events you follow) and Organising (events you run). The buttons at the top open your clubs, add an event and open Settings.
Following rides
- How do I follow an event in the Android app?Tap the event link your organiser shared and it opens in the app with You’re invited: tap Join. Or tap + on the Events screen, then Follow an event, paste the link and tap Find event. No account is needed. Followed events appear under Riding, with every day’s forecast, the widget and the evening-before alert.
- How do I read a day’s forecast in the Android app?Open an event and tap a day. The map shows the wind on every stretch, and the sheet below gives the rating, your times, the headwind or tailwind, and boxes for wind, temperature and rain. Tap a box for an hour-by-hour chart, or open the kilometre breakdown. Fly the route and Share are on every day.
- How do I share a day or an event from the Android app?Tap Share on any day once its forecast is out, or the share button at the top of an event. Choose Post 4:5 or Story 9:16, then Share image, Copy caption or Share link. The caption has the link, so paste it into your Instagram or Facebook post. It works on your own events and My Rides too.
Your own rides and events
- Can I set up an event in the Android app?Yes. On the Events screen, tap + then Set up a new event, and sign in if you haven’t. Choose what it is, who it’s for (just you, or a group), name it, set its dates and tap Create. Then add its GPX routes from your phone, Ride with GPS or Strava. It’s the same event as on the website.
- How do I edit, publish or delete an event in the Android app?Tap the event under Organising, or tap one of My Rides and then Edit. Tap a day to change its route, towns, start time or pace, and the gear for the event’s settings: route downloads, live tracking, details, dates, every-day defaults, unpublishing and deleting. Publish picks the address and gives you the link to share.
- How do I add routes in the Android app?In the event’s editor, tap Upload GPX files to pick them from your phone, or bring routes in from Ride with GPS or Strava. You can also open a GPX file from WhatsApp, Gmail or Files in Windline: Add to an event lets you pick the event it goes into, or set up a new one.
Fly the route and live tracking
- How does Fly the route work in the Android app?On any day, tap Fly the route. The camera flies the route in 3D on satellite imagery, with the wind at the hour you’ll be there, the climbs, and every 100 m of road checked. Drag along the profile to go anywhere, and use Layers to colour the route by wind, heat, climb or surface.
- How do I live track my ride from the Android app?Switch on Live tracking in your event’s settings and share the link. On the day, tap Start live tracking and let Windline run in the background. Put the phone in your pocket: a notification shows it’s on, with Pause and Stop, and Live now sits at the top of Events. Positions are kept with no signal, and it stops at the finish.
- How do I follow someone’s ride live in the Android app?Tap the live link on an Android phone with Windline installed and it opens in the app, full screen. You can also tap Happening now on your club. You’ll see the rider on a 3D satellite map, the line ridden, the weather where they are, what’s ahead and their finish time.
Clubs and Strava
- How do clubs work in the Android app?Sign in, then tap the people button on the Events screen to see your clubs, find one and join it. A club’s link opens it in the app too. On a club you’ll see Happening now while a ride is live tracked, the next rides and who’s riding. Tap I’m riding to put a ride in your Riding list, with its alert the evening before.
- How do Strava and Ride with GPS work in the Android app?Two separate things. Strava’s wind on your rides adds a short note of the wind you rode in to each ride you upload; turn it on from Settings, Strava, when there’s room. Connected apps (Ride with GPS and Strava) let organisers bring routes into an event; manage them in Settings, Connected apps.
- How do I enter the Windline 1000 from the Android app?Sign in, then open Settings and tap The Windline 1000, or tap the banner on the Events screen when it’s showing. Tap Enter the Windline 1000 and connect Strava once. Your total then shows on the Events screen as you ride, and you can save or share your finisher card.
Alerts, widget and settings
- What notifications does the Windline Android app send?An alert at 6 pm the evening before each ride you follow, with the rating, the reason and the weather, with or without an account. Signed in, it also tells you when an event you follow changes or is removed, when your club adds a ride (if you turned that on), and when a club approves you. Allow notifications when the app asks.
- How do I add the Today’s ride widget on Android?Long-press an empty part of your home screen, tap Widgets, find Windline and add Today’s ride. It shows your next ride on Automatic, or one event you choose, with the weather timed to when you’ll be on the road. Resize it for more: small, wide and large. It refreshes every 30 minutes.
- Does the Android app work without signal?Yes, with the forecast it last saved. With no signal the app shows what it saved and how long ago it was updated, in amber when it couldn’t refresh. The evening-before alerts still arrive, changes to your own events sync later, and live tracking keeps your positions and sends them when you have signal again.
- What’s in the Android app’s Settings?Tap the gear on the Events screen. Settings has your account (or Sign in or create an account), units, appearance, alerts (On, Not set up or Off in phone settings), connected apps, Strava, the Windline 1000, and help. Signed in, your units and appearance are saved to your account, so the website matches.
