Can I set up an event in the Android app?

Updated

Yes. On the Events screen, tap + then Set up a new event, and sign in if you haven’t. Choose what it is, who it’s for (just you, or a group), name it, set its dates and tap Create. Then add its GPX routes from your phone, Ride with GPS or Strava. It’s the same event as on the website.

Set it up

  1. On the Events screen, tap +, then Set up a new event. If you’re not signed in, the app asks you to sign in first. See signing in.
  2. Step 1 of 2: What are you setting up? A Regular / group ride, a Race or event, or a Multi-day tour. Each shows the address its link will have, such as tour.windline.tech/your-name. See choosing an event type.
  3. Step 2 of 2: Who’s it for? To share with a group (you’ll publish it with its own link, under Organising), or Just for me (a private ride under My Rides; nothing is published, and you can share it with a group later). See planning a ride just for you.
  4. Give it a Name.
  5. When: for a tour or race, when it Starts and Ends. For a regular or group ride, How often?: Every week and the days it Rides on, or Just once and its Date, then the Start time.
  6. Time zone: set automatically from where your route starts when you add it.
  7. Tap Create tour, Create race or Create ride.

The event opens in its editor. Add the routes: Upload GPX files from your phone’s Downloads, Files or Google Drive, or bring them in from Ride with GPS or Strava. A tour takes one file per day; they go onto your dates in route order. No file to hand? Tap Try with a sample route. See adding routes in the app.

Then set the start times, pace and stops, and Publish (or keep it just for you). See editing and publishing in the app. Everything works the same as on the website.

To let people follow the ride live, switch on Live tracking in the event’s settings (the gear in the editor) and share the live link. On the day, start it from the app. See live tracking from the app.

A big event? It’s quicker on a computer. The new-event screen offers Send link to my computer: open it there and drag in all your GPX files at once at app.windline.tech.

Starting from a GPX file

Got the route in WhatsApp, Gmail or Files? Open it with Windline (or share it to Windline), then choose Set up a new event. Set it up as above, and the route goes straight in.

Where do I get the GPX files?

From Strava, Komoot, Ride with GPS, Garmin Connect or your bike computer. See getting a GPX file.

Phone and website together

It’s one event. Start it on your phone and finish it on a computer at app.windline.tech, or the other way round: changes show on both, because they’re saved to your account.

Letting riders download the route

Letting riders download your route as a Garmin course or GPX is off by default. Turn it on in the event’s settings, under Route downloads. See letting riders download the route.
