GPX files and routes
Getting a GPX file, adding it, and what Windline reads from it.
- How do I add GPX files to an event?Open the event in the dashboard and drop one or more .gpx files onto it, or choose them from your computer or phone. Each file becomes a day or stage on the next free date, and Windline fills in the towns and the climbing.
- How do I get a GPX file from Strava, Komoot, Ride with GPS or Garmin?Every big route planner can export GPX, usually from its website. In Strava, open the route and choose GPX. In Komoot, open the route and choose Download GPX file. In Ride with GPS, use Export and pick GPX. Then drop the file into Windline.
- How are days numbered and ordered when I add files?Files go onto the next free dates in the order you add them, and a day’s number comes from its date: the first date is Day 1. On a tour, Windline then sorts the days into route order. File names don’t set the order.
- Where do the towns and climbing figures come from?Windline takes the towns from the route’s name inside the GPX file when it reads like “Day 3 - Big Sur to Cambria”, and otherwise looks them up from the start and finish points. Climbing comes from the file’s heights, or from terrain data if the file has none.
