Can I plan a ride just for me, without publishing it?

Updated

Yes. When you set up a ride, race or trip, choose Just for me. It stays in My Rides with the full forecast, and gets a short private link, such as ride.windline.tech/misty-otter-42, that shows anyone you send it to the whole forecast with your start and finish hidden.

Just for me, or to share with a group

Every time you set up a ride, race or trip, Windline asks who it’s for:

  • Just for me: it’s yours. It appears under My Rides with every forecast, the day pages, and in the iPhone app the widgets and the evening-before alert. Nothing is published.
  • To share with a group: the usual public link for your riders, under Organising.

You need a Windline account either way, so your rides are the same on your phone and on the website.

A private ride gets a short link you can say out loud, such as ride.windline.tech/misty-otter-42. Send it to whoever you like; they don’t need an account. Search engines never see it, and it’s never listed anywhere.

The whole forecast, the same as any Windline event: the map, the wind arrows, the times, the rating and the kilometre breakdown. Only your start and finish are hidden, the way Strava does it:

  • No start or finish: the first and last kilometre of each day are cut off the route, like a privacy zone, and the places show as “Start” and “Finish”.
  • Quiet afterwards: two days after the ride or trip, the link only says “This ride is over”. A weekly ride only shows others its next ride.

What you see

Everything, start and finish included. In the iPhone app, open the ride under My Rides. On the website, open the ride in your dashboard and choose Open full forecast: it’s your own view, so don’t send that link to anyone; send the private link instead.

Your settings

Open the ride and choose Who sees it (on the website) or the ride’s settings (in the app):

  • Link sharing: switch it off and the link shows “Not found” to everyone but you.
  • Get a new link: the old one stops working at once.
  • Share with a group: gives it a public address so others can follow it. It moves to Organising, the old private link forwards there, and it can’t be made private again.
