How do I add the Today’s ride widget on Android?
Updated
Long-press an empty part of your home screen, tap Widgets, find Windline and add Today’s ride. It shows your next ride on Automatic, or one event you choose, with the weather timed to when you’ll be on the road. Resize it for more: small, wide and large. It refreshes every 30 minutes.
Add it
- Long-press an empty part of your home screen and tap Widgets.
- Find Windline (you can search for it) and choose Today’s ride.
- Drag it onto your home screen, or tap Add.
It starts on Automatic: today’s day if you’re on a tour, otherwise your next ride. Some phones ask straight away which event to show.
Sizes
It starts small, a square of 2 by 2. To make it bigger, long-press it and drag its edges:
- Small: the day and rating, the route, the headwind or tailwind, the wind and gusts, the temperature (or wind chill) and the rain.
- Wide: adds the event’s name, your times on the road and the reason for the rating.
- Large: a bigger number, the headwind, crosswind and tailwind bar, Wind, Temp and Rain boxes, and Along the route: each stretch coloured by its wind, from your start time to your finish.
What it shows
The weather for your next ride, timed to when you’ll be on the road:
- The day (“Today”, “Tomorrow” or a date such as “Sat 10 Oct”) and the rating.
- The headwind or tailwind, the wind and gusts.
- The wind chill at riding speed, such as “feels like 6°”, when it’s colder than the air.
- The rain.
Too far ahead for a forecast, it says when the forecast opens.
Every size shows when it was last updated. If it couldn’t refresh, that turns amber and says “no signal?”. It refreshes every 30 minutes, and whenever the app has a newer forecast.
The Apple Weather mark appears on every size, because the forecast comes from Apple Weather. Tap the widget to open Windline.
Change the event
Long-press the widget and tap its settings (the pencil, or Settings on a Samsung). Pick one of your events, or Automatic.
It says “Open Windline and follow an event to see it here.”
The widget shows the events you follow and your own rides under My Rides, signed in or not. Follow one, and open Windline once so the widget can read it. See following an event.
“No ride coming up.” means none of them has a ride ahead.
