What is Windline?
Updated
Windline turns a GPX route into a live forecast of the wind, gusts, rain and heat you’ll meet on every stretch of road, timed to when you’ll be there. Organisers set up a tour, race or regular ride once, and riders open one link.
A forecast for your route, not your town
A normal weather app tells you the wind in one place at one time. A ride crosses many places over many hours. Windline splits your route into short stretches, works out when you’ll reach each one, and reads the forecast for that place at that time.
It then compares the wind with the direction of the road. That’s how it can tell you whether you’ll have a headwind, a crosswind or a tailwind on each part of the ride, and how much harder or easier the wind makes it.
What you see
- A rating for each day: Good, Fair or Tough, with the reason. See what the ratings mean.
- A map with the route coloured by headwind and tailwind, and arrows for the wind.
- Wind, temperature and rain along the ride, with hour-by-hour charts.
- A kilometre (or mile) breakdown of the time, wind and effect at each stretch.
Who it’s for
- Organisers of multi-day tours, races and stage events, and club or group rides.
- Riders who follow those events. They need no account and no app: the link opens in any browser.
- Anyone riding a regular route, such as a weekly loop, who wants the wind for their next ride.
Where the forecast comes from
The weather data comes from Apple Weather. Ratings, headwind and timings are Windline’s own calculations from that data. More in where the forecast comes from.
