Where does the forecast come from, and how often does it update?
Updated
The weather data comes from Apple Weather. Windline refreshes it about every hour for rides in the next two days, every three hours up to five days out, and every six hours further ahead. Each day shows when its forecast was last updated.
Apple Weather
Windline reads wind speed and direction, gusts, temperature, rain and air pressure from Apple Weather for points along the route. Apple lists the sources behind its data on its data source attribution page.
Ratings, headwind and timings are Windline’s own calculations from Apple Weather data, which Windline has modified. That’s why every page that shows a forecast carries the Apple Weather mark and that notice.
How fresh it is
| When the ride starts | Forecast refreshed about every |
|---|---|
| Within 2 days | Hour |
| 2 to 5 days away | 3 hours |
| More than 5 days away | 6 hours |
Every rider sees the same stored forecast, so everyone in the group gets the same numbers. The footer of a day shows “Forecast updated” with the time it was last fetched.
Check again before you ride
Forecasts sharpen as the day gets closer. Look a week out to plan, then check the evening before and on the morning of the ride. The link is live, so riders don’t need a new one.
If Apple Weather can’t be reached for a moment, Windline keeps showing the last good forecast rather than nothing.
