Ride live: record any ride with the wind ahead

Updated

Ride live records any ride, with no route or event needed. Tap + on the Events screen, then Ride live, then Start. You see the wind and weather for the road ahead, followers can watch only if you switch on “Followers can see me”, and the finished ride goes to Past, private, with its track. It counts toward the Windline 1000 if you’ve entered.

Ride live is live tracking for your own ride: any road, any day, with no route, race or event to set up. It isn’t social. There’s no feed, no kudos and no comments.

Start a ride

  1. On the Events screen, tap +, then Ride live: “Record your ride, with the wind ahead. No route needed.”
  2. Choose whether Followers can see me (below).
  3. Tap Start.

Ride live uses your location while you ride. You can stop any time.

Who can watch

The Start screen has one switch, Followers can see me:

  • Off: “Only you see this ride.” Your first Ride live starts with it off.
  • On: it ticks People I approve for this ride, as on a race. People whose follow request you accepted, and anyone with your follow link or your livedot link, can watch the ride live, in any browser, with no account. Share your links only with people you want watching. See who can see you.

Windline remembers your choice for your next ride.

Your home stays private. Followers see your dot only while you’re riding: not while you’re paused or stopped, never in your first kilometre, and never within 1 km of where you started. Your line never shows the first kilometre, and after the finish it never shows the last one.

Show me on the challenge map

While you’re entered in the Windline 1000 and it’s on, the Start screen has a second switch under Followers can see me: Show me on the challenge map.

  • Off unless you switch it on, on every ride. It’s never remembered.
  • On: you appear in “out now” on livedot.me/1000, with your first name, last initial and distance, for anyone to see. The same home privacy holds: no dot while you’re stopped, in your first kilometre or within 1 km of where you started.

While you ride

  • On the screen: where you are, with the wind and weather for the road ahead.
  • On the Lock Screen (or in Android’s notification): your distance and the headwind on the next stretch.
  • Taps on the back reach you as on a race. See taps on the back.

Pauses and auto-stop

  • Pause any time. A coffee stop never ends the ride.
  • After 20 minutes without moving, Windline asks “Still riding?”. Tap it to carry on. With no answer in 5 minutes, the ride pauses, and it carries on by itself when you move again.
  • After 14 hours, the ride finishes by itself, and everything recorded is kept.

Finish

Tap Finish, then Finish again. You see your summary: the distance, your time, and the wind and weather you had, such as how much harder the headwind made it.

There’s no save question. Every finished ride goes to Past automatically, as one of your own rides: private, with its full track. The finish screen says “Saved to Past”, with Rename and Delete.

  • Rename gives the ride a name you’ll recognise.
  • Delete removes its track at once. If the ride counted toward a challenge, it keeps counting: only its date, distance, time and sport are kept.

Ride it again

Open the ride in Past and change its date. It becomes an upcoming ride again, with its forecast, Fly the route and its private link, like any ride under My Rides. Anyone with the private link sees the ride, without its first and last kilometre, until 3 days after the new date.

The Windline 1000

If you’ve entered the Windline 1000, every Ride live from 16 to 31 December counts by itself, as verified kilometres. The finish screen says, for example, “Counts toward the Windline 1000 · 84.2 km”. A ride that needs a closer look says “We’re checking this one. It counts once it’s approved.” See entering the Windline 1000.

What’s kept

  • The ride in Past, with its track, until you delete it or your account. It never appears on livedot.
  • While you ride, the positions your phone sends are held only until the finish.
  • After Delete: only the date, distance, time and sport.

See what Windline keeps.

Ride live comes to the Windline app on iPhone and Android in the next update, around 10 December. Followers watch in any browser, with no app or account.
