What do the colours and arrows on the map mean?

Updated

On a day’s map, the route is coloured by the headwind or tailwind on each stretch: red for a strong headwind, amber for a lighter one, grey for little either way, and green for tailwind. Arrows show where the wind is blowing to, with its speed.

The route colours on a day

Colour Wind along the road at that stretch
Red Headwind of 12 km/h (7.5 mph) or more
Amber Headwind of 4 to 12 km/h (2.5 to 7.5 mph)
Grey Less than 4 km/h (2.5 mph) either way, including wind from the side
Light green Tailwind of 4 to 12 km/h (2.5 to 7.5 mph)
Green Tailwind of 12 km/h (7.5 mph) or more

A wind straight from the side pushes neither for nor against you, so it shows grey on the map. Side-on gusts are rated separately; see what Good, Fair and Tough mean.

The arrows

Up to about a dozen arrows sit along the route. Each points the way the wind is blowing to, and shows its speed in km/h. The start is marked ▶ and the finish ⚑.

The overview map

On the event’s main page, Overview opens a map of every day, coloured by that day’s rating: Good, Fair, Tough, or “Not rated yet” for days outside the forecast window. Tap a day to open it. Regular rides show the next ride.

Charts and the map together

On a day, tap the WIND, TEMP or RAIN box for an hour-by-hour chart. Slide along the chart and a dot moves along the map to show where you’ll be at that moment.
