How do I read a day’s forecast in the iPhone app?

Updated

Open an event and tap a day. The map shows the wind on every stretch, and the sheet below gives the rating, your times, the headwind or tailwind, and boxes for wind, temperature and rain. Tap a box for an hour-by-hour chart, or open the kilometre breakdown.

The event

Open an event from the Events screen. You’ll see:

  • Its dates, days and distance, and when it was last updated.
  • Alerts: the switch for the 6 pm evening-before alert for this event.
  • Download the route, if the organiser allows it. See downloading the route.
  • A map of every day, coloured by its rating.
  • Every day: its route, date, times and distance, and the rating with the reason. A day that’s too far ahead says Forecast opens and the date.

A day

Tap a day. The map fills the screen, with the route coloured by the wind on each stretch and arrows showing where the wind comes from. Pinch and drag to look around.

Pull the sheet up for the details:

  • The rating: Good, Fair or Tough, with “Headwind day”, “Neutral wind”, “Tailwind day” and so on.
  • Your times on the road, for example “06:00 → 12:23”, at the group’s speed.
  • The big number: the headwind or tailwind along the route, and the wind it comes from.
  • The reason, in one line.
  • Wind, Temp and Rain. Tap a box for an hour-by-hour chart through the ride, and slide along it to see each moment.
  • The effect bar: how much of the ride is headwind, crosswind, tailwind and calm.
  • Kilometre breakdown (or Mile breakdown): each stretch with its time, wind, gusts, temperature and rain.

At the bottom, a note says how the forecast is timed, for example “at 25 km/h with 105 min of stops”, and whether part of the ride is beyond the forecast window.

Buttons on the day

The forecast reloads each time you open a day. It comes from Apple Weather and is timed to when you reach each stretch. See how the forecast is timed.
