How do I live track my ride from the iPhone app?
Updated
Switch on Live tracking in the event’s settings and share the link. On the day, tap Start live tracking on the day (or on the reminder 30 minutes before). Put the phone in your pocket: the Lock Screen shows it’s on, positions are kept with no signal, and it stops at the finish.
Live tracking sends your position from the Windline iPhone app, and only the app. A web browser, on any phone, doesn’t send it.
Turn it on for the event
- Open the event’s editor (tap it under Organising, or open a My Rides ride and tap Edit), then tap the gear.
- Switch on Live tracking.
- Copy or Share the live link: in the group chat, pinned, or to your family.
In the same place:
- Who can watch: Anyone with the link or Only me.
- Make a new link: the old link stops working straight away.
Only the event’s owner can live track it. For a group, one phone is enough: the lead rider’s or the support vehicle’s, signed in to the organiser’s account.
On the day
- About 30 minutes before the start, the app asks Start live tracking? Tap it. Or open the day: Start live tracking is there on the ride’s day.
- Tap Start live tracking. The first time, your iPhone asks to use your location. Choose Allow While Using App: Windline doesn’t need “Always”.
- Put the phone in your pocket and ride.
While it’s on:
- The blue location indicator at the top of the screen shows it’s on.
- On the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, a Windline card shows “Live”, the distance, the day and the time ridden. Tap it to open the app.
- In the app: Pause and Resume, Stop, and Share the live link. It also says if you’re Off route.
No signal
Your phone keeps every position and sends them all when it has signal again. Nothing is lost. The app says how many are waiting. Followers see “No signal” and an estimate of where you are, then the real line fills in.
Don’t swipe the app away
Going to the Home Screen, locking the phone or opening other apps is fine: tracking carries on. But if you swipe Windline away in the app switcher, your iPhone stops sending your position. Open Windline again and it carries on where it left off, with the same day and the same line.
Stopping
- Tap Stop. Followers see that you’ve finished. You can start again for the same day.
- It stops by itself when you reach the finish, or 3 hours after the planned finish.
Battery
Windline takes a position about every 25 metres you move, and sends them every 30 seconds. On a long day, start with a full battery or carry a power bank.
If it won’t start
“Windline needs your location to share it”: open your iPhone’s Settings → Windline → Location and choose While Using the App.
Positions are deleted 7 days after the ride. The line you rode is kept. See what Windline keeps and Follow live.
