How do the evening-before alerts work?

Updated

At 6 pm the evening before each ride, the iPhone app sends one notification with that ride’s rating, the reason and the weather, timed to when you’ll be on the road. Allow notifications when the app asks, and switch alerts on or off for each event on its page.

What you get

One notification at 6 pm (your phone’s time) the evening before each ride you follow or plan, for example:

Tomorrow · Big Sur to Cambria: Tough. Headwind: about 46% more effort. Wind 21 km/h, gusts to 44 · 9–17°C · dry.

It’s the same rating and numbers you’ll see on the day’s page, from the latest forecast at that moment. Tap it to open the day.

It’s the best time to decide what to wear, when to start and where to sit in the group, and it never contains adverts or sponsors.

Turn them on

The first time you follow an event or plan a ride, the app asks Know the wind the night before. Tap Continue and allow notifications.

If you said no before, open your iPhone’s Settings → Notifications → Windline and switch on Allow Notifications.

Choose which events

Alerts are on for each event you follow and each of your own rides. To switch them off for one event, open it and turn off its alert. For all of them, use your iPhone’s notification settings.

Why didn’t I get one?

  • Notifications are off for Windline in your iPhone’s settings, or Focus or Do Not Disturb was on.
  • The ride is more than about 10 days away, so it has no forecast yet.
  • Your phone had no signal at 6 pm. The forecast is in the app as soon as it reconnects.
