How do I follow someone’s ride live in the iPhone app?
Updated
Tap the live link on an iPhone with Windline installed and it opens in the app. You can also tap Happening now on your club. You’ll see the rider on a satellite map, the line ridden, the weather where they are, what’s ahead and their finish time.
Open it
- From a live link: tap it in WhatsApp, Messages or Mail. With Windline installed, it opens in the app. Without the app, it opens in Safari, with a suggestion to get the app (or Or keep watching here).
- From your club: while one of your club’s rides is being tracked, Happening now is at the top of the club. Tap it. See clubs in the app.
No account is needed to watch from a link.
What you see
- Where they are: a dot on the satellite map, gliding along the road between updates.
- The line ridden so far, in violet.
- The status: Live, Delayed (“last seen 6 min ago”), No signal, Paused or Finished.
- Their speed, or “Stopped”.
- Right now: the wind against them, the temperature, climbed and still to climb, and Finish about a time that updates as they ride.
- Ahead: for example “Headwind from km 112, about 13:40”, rain, strong gusts or heat.
- On the road they’re on, or “Off route” and how far from it.
With no signal, a faint marker labelled Probably about here (estimate) moves on at their average speed until the real track arrives.
On private rides, the dot is hidden within 1 km of the start and finish.
Buttons
- Follow the rider: keeps the map on them. Move the map and it stops following; tap it to go back.
- Whole route.
- Layers: the wind, gusts, rain and temperature, and colour the route by Wind, Heat or Climb.
- Share: send the live link on.
Before they start
It says live tracking hasn’t started, with the planned start time. You can look over the route and the forecast. It updates by itself, so keep it open or come back later.
If it says the link isn’t working, the rider has made a new one. Ask them for it.
