What’s the difference between a sponsor and an event partner?
Updated
A sponsor is an outside brand that pays Windline to be seen by an event’s riders: “This event is proudly sponsored by” with a Visit button. An event partner is the event itself paying for Windline to be its official weather partner, in the event’s own logo and colours. Only Windline sets either one.
Two different things
| Sponsor | Event partner | |
|---|---|---|
| Who pays | An outside brand, such as a coffee roaster, a bike shop or an app | The event itself: its organiser |
| What it says | “This event is proudly sponsored by …” | “Official weather partner of …” |
| What they get | Seen by the event’s riders, and taps to their website | Windline as their event’s official forecast, in their own logo and colour |
| Link | A “Visit” button to their website | None: it’s the riders’ own event |
| Measured | Views and taps, reported to the sponsor | Not needed |
An event can have both: one event partner and one sponsor.
Where a sponsor appears
- On the event page, right under its name, and on every day’s page: “This event is proudly sponsored by” with their logo, name and a line about them, and a button to visit their website. The same in the iPhone app.
- On share images: when a rider shares a day, the sponsor’s strip sits at the bottom of the image, with their web address.
- In the share caption: “Sponsored by …” with a link.
Where an event partner appears
- At the top of the event: a banner with the event’s logo and “Official weather partner of …” in the event’s colour.
- On every day: a short “Official weather partner of …” line at the top.
- On share images: the event’s logo and name above the day’s title.
- In the share caption: “Windline is the official weather partner of …”
What neither one gets
- Anything about you. Windline counts how often a sponsor is seen and tapped, without cookies, without advertising trackers and without knowing who you are. Sponsors and partners get the totals, never a list of riders.
- Your notifications or widgets. The evening alert and the Home Screen widgets never show a sponsor or a partner.
- A say in the forecast. Ratings, wind and timings are worked out the same way for every event, sponsored or not.
Who decides
Only Windline adds a sponsor or an event partner. Organisers can’t add their own, so an event’s riders only ever see one marked sponsor, never a page of adverts.
- A brand that wants to sponsor riders: see how to sponsor an event.
- An organiser who wants their event’s branding, or a sponsor for it: see Windline as your event’s official weather partner.
