About the race
Gran Fondo New York, or GFNY, is a timed mass-participation cycling event, and the name now covers a worldwide series of rides under the GFNY World banner. The organiser's calendar lists the 2027 events in New York City for Sunday 16 May 2027, under two names: Gran Premio New York City and the GFNY World Championship NYC.
What the event offers
The organiser's pitch is that every rider can "be a pro for a day". Each GFNY event has a mass start, individual chip timing from the start line to the finish, and awards in every category. Roads are either fully closed or have police-moderated traffic, so that riders do not have to stop. The official GFNY jersey, designed in New York and made in Italy, is part of the entry and is mandatory race attire. Every finisher receives a medal, whichever distance they ride, and multi-finisher medals recognise riders who complete several GFNY events.
Distances
The organiser describes GFNY as a personal challenge that suits riders going for the podium and those simply trying to beat the cut-off. Check the organiser for exact distances for the New York ride.
Qualification and entry
Riders who finish in the top 10 per cent of their age group qualify for a place in the qualifier corral at any GFNY event, and the organiser keeps rankings and a qualification page for cycling. Entry is online through the registration section of the site, which also lets you gift a registration. Check the organiser's site for the entry window and cut-off schedule.
The wider calendar
GFNY runs events across the Americas and Europe in the same period, including Miami on 4 April 2027, Ventura on 11 April 2027, Walnut Creek on 18 April 2027, Lourdes Tourmalet on 13 June 2027 and Nyborg on 8 August 2027. A global GFNY Day is listed for 16 August 2026.
Preparing
GFNY offers training plans on TrainingPeaks and personalised coaching, and group rides and camps feature in its menu.
